The Anchorage Latino
Lions Club is a small club whose members are great big passionate
givers. Once a month, through the Anchorage Anti-Hunger Network of
the Food Bank of Alaska (FBA), the Club shares food with over 300 families in the Northeast side of Anchorage. At Christmas time the
Club throws a party with gifts and food for the children, and a Club
member sits as Santa Claus and hands out gifts and homemade treats to
the children.
Along with other Anchorage and Girdwood lions, the Club participates
in the Big Pumpkin Festival where it runs the Spin-the-Wheel game for
the children, and it pitches in when another local club needs
additional hands for an event or project. For years the Club helps
set up the stage for the Alaska Muscular Dystrophy Telethon. As part
of the International Lions efforts to help the
blind and vision impaired the Club also runs a "white cane"
fundraiser. Its main fundraiser is the Fall Festival, which takes
place every other year around September.
